"Before IRON MARVELS, I was an Ironworker and a Firefighter - serving over 23 years"......
My name is Saul. I grew up in the outskirts of Dallas, TX before moving to Phoenix, AZ as a kid over 40 years ago. I grew up playing many sports and in a family of many Artists. I grew up watching my father, grandfather, aunts, and uncles display their individual talents. Whether it was playing a music instrument, writing songs, pencil sketched drawings, fabricating metal and woodworking projects, I discovered that I had that artist gene in me as well. I was given a set of colored pencils and markers as a young child and I soon discovered that while blending many colors into my drawings, I was mesmerized by the many things I could blend together that were not ordinary. I remember enjoying not only the colors of my markers but a variety of patterns and shapes that I incorporated into my drawings. I always remembered how I did not want to draw what everyone was drawing or do things how everyone else was doing things. I wanted my very own unique drawing that would stand out from everyone else’s. This feeling grew more and more throughout grade school and high school and is very much alive today.
Shortly after high school I became an Ironworker, joining my father, grandfather, uncle, and cousins that have made a proud living in this profession. It was tough and dangerous, but I loved working with steel. No matter how high up on a project I was, the strength of the steel made me feel safe. I worked on bridges, high rises, and one stadium as a part of my experience. I saw beauty in the glow of steel when it was torch cut. Glowing red and orange. I learned the immense power that heat had over steel when applied.
Fast forward a few years later at the age of 26 I was hired as a firefighter in a local municipal department in Arizona in 1998. Three years later, I would have the honor to be a public servant in New York with many other first responders for The World Trade Center attacks. It is still a very tragic event that I will never forget. I witnessed the massive piles of twisted, torn, and melted steel. I was changed forever. This event and experience served me well in the reminder of the frailty of life and that time is precious. Tomorrow is not promised. I have the freedom to be an Artist today. Thus, this event is what inspired me to continue my work as a Artist, using steel and beautiful hardwoods as a different mediums. I began my art during my early years as a firefighter and continue to date, more than 20 years later.
In 2021, after serving 23 and a half years, I retired from my profession as a firefighter to pursue my passion in ART at a full time pace. I am thankful for the amazing Fire Department Journey and experience in Arizona. Although I credit God entirely for my entire journey and purpose of life, serving as a firefighter opened a door to a future. It was time to step away from one amazing career to enter another - to create and bring ideas from the imagination to the visible and beautiful world of Art.
The Destiny of my life has come to fruition - one world from my past as a child growing up amongst a family of artists combined with a second world from the experiences of being an Ironworker in Arizona and my experience in public safety and remembering what I saw in New York in September of 2001. These experiences combined is what I represent today in my Art - Old World and Modern in many ways. I'll forever be thankful to the city of New York and its architectual beauty. To this very day, I visit a minimum of once a year since that tragic time many years ago.
LIFE today- I am married to my beautiful wife Mikaleen and we have three adult children and 3 amazing grandchildren. God has blessed our family repeatedly through each other and our church family. We believe in Jesus Christ, who he was and who he is today. As a family, we strive to be consistently involved in our community to help make a greater impact to those in need. Art is my gift and way of showing others how to work with their hands. We believe in the purpose of the "Missions Field," locally and afar. John 15:5 - “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
Please take a moment to look at my different portfolios of work. I hope you see clues in my work that are inspired from being an Ironworker and some characteristics gained from my experiences of walking the streets of New York for the past 20 years. You can now understand why I am inspired to pair steel with a variety of other elements such as beautiful hardwoods, precious metals, natural stones, and glass. Many of the pieces that I have designed and created over the years are unique - one of a kind that cannot be replicated. Welcome to Iron Marvels!
WE STUDY WE PONDER WE CREATE
First, I am not an Interior Designer. I am an Artist who brings life to an environment through the ideas I personally create for you. Whether its the inside or outside of a space, I have exerience in many different facets of Art and construction to create or fabricate beautifully unique designs for almost any setting. Our goal many times is to blend different worlds to create unique and vivid one-of-a-kind results. All details of my work is created by my own hands and imagination as an artist. No idea is too big or too small. All of my designs start with the dream or a vision from a client, if not, I will gladly suggest some. The end result is a beautiful and authentic creation that I hope will leave an impression of a lifetime. Even though part of our exterior design section is creating more ordinary, but still custom gates, much thought still goes into these designs and projects as well. Please take a look at our Portfolio.
Interior Designs Sculpted ART
Exterior Designs Unique Projects
EVERY SITUATION IS UNIQUE.
Every area is its own. Every atmosphere deserves to be considered for its independence. BEFORE I EVEN BEGIN TO CREATE A DESIGN for you, colors, settings, aesthetics, interior and exterior features are all part of the world that already exists and must be studied and considered.
Even though we are a small company, it is by design and intention. Every piece we create demands dedication and attention. I sit down with most clients, intently listen, and take their thoughts and visions home with me to make them a reality. Time is an important element in fulfilling the ultimate achievement of satisfying our clients.
MY ARTISTIC VISION is a combination of my journeys of the past intertwined with the present. Perhaps “Old World Meets Modern”. I like to combine different elements with different styles and disciplines into a project. Balance is the key. For example, Steel in some cases is assigned as the anchor point and then colors and textures from beautiful hardwoods, natural stone, precious metals, and even glass are added.
I believe that all of these individual elements were not meant to be kept independent of each other ( in some cases) but in many projects, there is a benefit to "grafting" them together. If there is beauty in one single source, there is even more of a glow when combined in a project. This is what I believe makes my work unique. I strive to create unique visions that blend various element as I find beauty in all of them in their own unique way. Additionally, I focus on one piece at a time. Every detail matters and deserves undivided attention.
A FUTURE GOAL - I am currently creating a non-profit organzation that provides a safe, passionate, and fruitful learning environment for the FUTURE ARTISTS OF AMERICA. Focusing specifically on young men and women that face daily challenges to discover their hidden passions and talents for ART. This is not a trade program but more specifically a place where welding and woodworking will be the foundation for ART. Established Artists will be available to help unlock the hidden artistic potentials of students attending the offered programs. Equally valuable, these Instructor Artists will be providing mentorship and teaching leadership to students. This serves as a Life application tool that can help students grow and expand their minds in serving others while growing into their own path of life.
Working with our Hands in modern times is declining. We want to help open the mind of every student to believe that there is much that one can accomplish by working with your hands in a profession today, whether it is in the Arts Industry or a Trade Career of self employment. Education through mentors is the key to success for the future of young minds today. Stay Tuned!
